Aaron Thomas, who played tight end and wide receiver for ten seasons in the NFL, passed away on April 26. He was 86. Thomas played for the San Francisco 49ers in 1961 and for the first two games of 1962. The 49ers then traded him to the New York Giants for Bob Gaiters. Thomas finished the 1962 season with New York and stayed with the Giants for the rest of his career.
Thomas’s best season was 1967, when he caught 51 passes for 877 yards and nine touchdowns. He was selected for one Pro Bowl, in 1964.
Thomas’s son, Robb Thomas, also played ten years in the NFL. He was a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Today’s card of the day is Aaron Thomas’s 1967 Philadelphia card, one of the double prints in the set. (The price guides don’t recognize the double prints, but you can see them on the Gallery’s 1967 Philadelphia virtual uncut sheet page.) He appeared on a few other cards and small collectibles, as well.
