Happy 70th birthday to Wilbert Montgomery! Montgomery played running back for nine seasons in the NFL: from 1977 to 1984 for the Philadelphia Eagles, and in 1985 for the Detroit Lions. He led the NFL with 2006 yards from scrimmage in 1979, and he made the Pro Bowl twice. He was a member of the Eagles team that played in Super Bowl XV, a loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Jackson played college football at Abilene Christian University, and he helped the Wildcats win the NAIA Division I Championship in 1973. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
After retiring as a player, Montgomery was an assistant coach in the NFL for 19 years. He won Super Bowl rings with the St. Louis Rams in 1999 and the Baltimore Ravens in 2012.
Today’s card of the day is Montgomery’s rookie card, a 1979 Topps.
